by a group of some 25 clients from 14 countries, the program analyzes
both markets and production technologies to assess medium- and
long-term industry prospects. A production cost simulation model
(IS-Sim) makes it possible to calculate the cost of iron, liquid
steel and hot rolled products manufactured by different process
routes and plant locations.

This assignment
is a follow-up of the one described hereafter for the same client,
ESA. Its major aim is to develop a short- and medium-term master
plan for the commercial activities of the ISS (International Space
Station, see below). It includes various other tasks to assist
the client in the implementation of its commercial strategy, including
operational activities like supporting ESA in the tendering procedure
and evaluation of offers presented by candidate commercial partners.

The ISS (International
Space Station) is a multinational global cooperative program for the
joint development, operation and utilization of a permanently inhabited
space station in low Earth orbit. The innovative concept and versatility
of the station (108m x 74 m, 420 tons, with 7 laboratories and external
platforms) opens the way to new applications, both conventional and
non conventional, that ITM is helping to identify and evaluate. The
research program is based on a creativity effort -- organizing and managing
also external contributions -- and long-term feasibility analysis.
